ANEMONE

Jane and Wren are two of the few survivors left alive on Earth, where the climate is now unbearable due to mankind’s conflicts. For the past few years they have been living in fear, completely isolated, and threatened by fellow survivors. Hiding in the woods, they have never been able to meet each other. They can only communicate throughout a small transmitter from their respective hideouts. Their spacecraft eventually comes: now they have to face the biggest threat, reaching the launch point alive.

It was easy, but not in the way you think. Late storms on Easter week, 2.5 meters of snow, cold weather and below zero temperatures. These were our 10 days of hell shooting Anemone. But let’s go back a little. We started writing this short film during the fall of 2017 but we had to wait until April 2018 to start shooting. We had to get the script right! During this time we met Helga, the lead actor. At first, we thought she wasn’t going to accept the role due to the tremendous amount of stamina required for it. But surprisingly she agreed, and we couldn’t be happier.

All the team was able to start shooting by the middle of April 2018. We knew it was going to be hard, but our expectations were not high enough to prepare us for what lied ahead.
The weather was our big main obstacle. It was spring but the snow wasn’t keen to stop falling from the sky, making it hard to move around our locations in our tiny European cars. In retrospective, it’s not very different from what we were trying to picture in the short film.

In a couple of situations Helga stopped feeling her fingers and toes, we were getting stuck inside the huge amount of snow, and Enrico too on multiple occasions. Our only choice was to push further and endure the process.

Every day it was harder than the one before. But everyone held on and, in the end, we were able to make it through production.
Right now you are probably asking yourself “How was that even remotely easy?”.

Well, what we were missing in luck was made up by us. Every day we would sit and dine together laughing and defusing what happened during the day. Even if we were working in harsh conditions the crew was able to get out of it stronger then before, making hell bearable enough to keep us going on.
